Sometimes your a-ha moments happen when you least expect it.

Today I attended a luncheon with a local CEO, Mary Miller, who has written a book called ‘Changing Direction – Ten Choices That Impact Your Dreams’. She shares her story with the hope that it will inspire others to chase their dreams.

As I listened to her talk, many of her points are applicable to people who wish to improve their health and fitness goals or really any new goals and dreams.

Here are some key takeaways to consider when you want something different for yourself.

Determine what it is that you want. If you can’t clearly state what you want, it is difficult to work toward it. Use resources at your disposal to figure it out more specifically.

Then you’ll want to figure out why that is important to you. She defined this as a critical piece of your puzzle. This is where the energy begins to build as you work toward what you want.

Mary shared a YouTube video where a comedian, Michael Jr., clarifies the difference between your what and your why. If you’re interested:

At this point you know what you want and why you want it. Now you need to think about your own thinking.

A mindset shift may be needed so that you are willing to tackle things you’ve not tackled before.

There will be challenges you face that include discomfort and fear. Work through it anyway.

Learn from the failures. That will continue the energy build-up to keep you moving toward your goals and dreams.

Work to build the support system you need to be successful.

For health and fitness changes you may need:

  • a trainer
  • a coach
  • a workout buddy
  • a sounding board
  • a support team

You don’t need to do this alone. People are out there who can help you. You just need to reach out and ask.

People like to help others.

The last point that really struck me was her statement:

You are the center of your universe. Without you, it wouldn’t exist.

For me that was a powerful statement that’s had me thinking all afternoon.

If we don’t properly take care of ourselves, we negatively impact all of those people in our universe.

I want to be a positive influence on the people in my universe.

I want to help others eat, live and move better by educating, coaching and motivating them to meet their goals.

For you, the above takeaways provide a list of steps to consider on your change journey.

For me, it affirms that the steps I took to become a health coach and to be a part of the PeakFAST team are repeatable and can help you reach your goals.

I bought the book on my way out today and look forward to reading more about Mary’s story.

Please let us know how we can help you change your story.
