I am really hoping Hump Day lives up to its name today.
I was excited about my plan for the week and the work I targeted for completion.
Things didn’t go my way at the beginning of the week. Very little progress on anything.
Nothing big. Just those little things that can pile up and feel like a big thing.
I went to the gym hoping to work it out with some sweat and exercise…and get over the hump.
We had a conversation about this while we were warming up today.
Coach Ryan’s day started off kind of like mine yesterday. It will get better.
I had a great workout and headed home. My neighbor was out so we chatted for a few minutes.
I hadn’t seen her since December. At that time her father just passed away so she started staying with her mom. Her mother just passed away.
My little irritations seem even smaller and insignificant.
Wiping the slate clean and moving on.
I walked in to see the posters my Girls on the Run girls made for me. We are wrapping up this season with a pizza party tomorrow and the 5K race on Saturday.
It’s been a great experience working with the 6th – 8th grade girls and their Girl Wheels.
The program focuses on five areas of the Girl Wheel: Body, Brain, Heart, Social and Spirit.
The lessons are built to help the girls build up skills within their wheel individually, as a team and as a community.
Each session has a Big Idea to help the girls process the lesson. It ties together from week to week.
For the last session on Monday, the girls were asked to reflect on the GOTR season and come up with a Big Idea to sum it up for them.
One of the girls said ‘Acceptance of where you are’. A very powerful statement for our group of girls.
They are all at different places within the Girl Wheel. Some are stronger in social and therefore more outspoken. Others are quieter with brain or heart their strength.
They are all at different places from a fitness perspective. Some will run the 5K for time. Others will walk the race.
Her point was to accept where you today are regardless of where that is.
I think that this mindset is appropriate for us as well.
We may not be where we want to be from a fitness and/or nutrition perspective, but that’s okay.
If you are learning and growing, you’ll get a little better each day. You can begin taking those steps today to get to where you want to be.
Accept where you are, but realize you don’t have to stay there.
We love helping people learn skills to help get a little better each day.
Let us know when you are ready to begin!
P.S. Here is a link if you’d like to learn more about Girls on the Run! It’s a great organization for the development of young girls.
