Today’s Habit is #5 – Make Smart Carb Choices. 🥔🍠🍚🍎

All carbs are not created equal.

The right carbs serve your body.  If you want to train hard (and at PeakFAST, you will!) then carbs are essential. In fact, the harder you train the better friends you and carbs will become.

What is a smart carb:

  • Is generally a whole or minimally processed food
  • Is full of vitamins, minerals, and other super nutrients that are typically lost in processing
  • Steadies your blood sugar, provides fuel, and feel-good hormones
  • Rich in fiber which aids in digestion

Check out some of these smart carb options:

•Plantains and squashes (butternut, pumpkin, etc.)
•Brown or wild rice
•Oats, especially slow cooked (steel-cut, etc.)
•Beans and legumes
•Ancient grains (amaranth, quinoa, teff, millet, etc.)
•Sprouted grain bread (Ezekiel, etc.)
•Sweet potatoes, Russet potatoes, Gold potatoes (ALL potatoes)

As with healthy fats, portions should be a consideration as you incorporate smart carbs into your meals.

For women one cupped handful and for men two cupped handfuls should be your starting point.

On Friday for 10 weeks, I will be introducing one of our top 10 habits. We work with clients to develop these habits slowly so that they work into their lifestyle. We all have different occupations, family situations, stressors, obligations, etc.

These habits are GUIDELINES that you adapt to fit your needs as you begin to develop them and incorporate them into your daily life.

I decided to go from #10 and count down to #1. Fitness and nutrition changes are tough enough, and then throw on all of the conflicting information and it’s even worse.

We try to cut through the noise and simplify the changes that can have the most impact.

I didn’t say it was easy to implement, but they are simple concepts to understand. We can help apply them to YOUR situation.

Check out for more fitness and nutrition information!
