Today is International Women’s Day 2018.

My message today definitely applies more to women, but the men could benefit as well.

You don’t have to go it alone. Ever.

I’ve had some recent client conversations where there have been comments like:

  • I tried to change too many things at once and ended up frustrated and overwhelmed.
  • I’m a private person and don’t like sharing these things with other people.
  • I should be able to do this on my own.

Yes we are all capable of doing many, many things on any given day. There are things that come easily to us while others are a bit more challenging. But we still work through them.

One thing I’ve learned as I transitioned from the corporate world to the coaching world is we don’t HAVE to do it alone. If you ask, people are always willing to help. People like to help other people.

So how can we best take advantage of this support to help us get to our goals?

Like I’ve said many times…we are all different. We have different values, goals, priorities, needs, strengths, etc.

And many of us think we have to go it alone struggling through whatever the current challenge is that we are facing.

A couple of things to think about to help lessen your burden and allow you to focus on what it is that is most important to you.

Review your values, goals and priorities. Are they aligned? Are they reasonable given your capacity at this point in your life?

Things change frequently so it’s important to do a check like this periodically…maybe quarterly. Put it on the calendar and make it a part of your regular schedule to review and make sure your time is being spent on those things that matter the most to you.

Look at your calendar. Is it working for you? Why or why not? We have a tendency to add something here and add something there. We don’t realize how much time it ends up taking away from the more important items on our lists.

The last and maybe most important…build your support system so you aren’t doing this alone. Making a decision to change your lifestyle is huge…and takes time. Having people around you who support your goal will make a world of difference in your success and help you manage the stress of change like this.

Family…the people closest to you. Sometimes this group is the toughest of the bunch. Just because you want to make changes…doesn’t mean that they do. Explaining to them your why and key reasons for the change will be important to get them on board for YOU even if they don’t want to make the changes.

Friends…those that can be your cheerleader and help keep you motivated. There may be some challenges here as we well if you choose to make changes related to your interactions with them, but they can also be a big part of your change process. Finding that buddy to workout or run with can help with accountability.

Coaching…an unbiased support to guide you. As a coach, we are not here to tell you what to do.

  • We are here to guide you to where you want to be.
  • We’ll provide information and suggestions that will help you build the skills you need to be successful.
  • We can be the accountability you need to keep moving forward each week.
  • We can troubleshoot challenges to figure out how to remove roadblocks and keep you moving forward.

We are there to help YOU. You are the one making the choices and doing the actions so that you’re building the skills that best help you. We are there to help make it easier to navigate.

Let me know how I can help with your plan so you can get started today!
